The Central District Football Coaches Association has announced its 2019 Coach of the Year award winners for Divisions I, II and III as well as one honoree among its Division IV-VII programs.
The honorees are former Groveport coach Bryan Schoonover in Division I, Olentangy Berlin’s Mark Nori in Division II, Centennial’s Donte Goosby in Division III and Harvest Prep’s Milan Smith in Division IV-VII.
Schoonover, who coached Groveport for seven seasons, resigned in early January after leading the Cruisers to a 10-3 record and a Region 3 runner-up finish last fall. Groveport beat eventual state champion Pickerington Central 19-14 on Sept. 20 to snap a 28-game losing streak against the Tigers.
Nori led Berlin to a 6-5 record and a berth in the Region 7 playoffs in just its second season. The Bears had finished 1-9 in their inaugural season in 2018.
Last season under Goosby, Centennial went 9-2, qualified for the playoffs for the first time and won its first City League-North Division title.
Harvest Prep went 12-2, reached a Division VII state semifinal and won its sixth consecutive league title last fall under Smith. The Warriors won the MSL-Ohio championship in its first season after league realignment.
