The hit Canadian comedy "Schitt's Creek" made history on a very weird Emmy Awards night Sunday, sweeping the comedy categories, while "Watchmen" took best limited series and "Succession won four honors, including best drama.

Zendaya snagged best lead actress in a drama for "Euphoria" and Jeremy Strong nabbed lead actor for "Succession" – which also won outstanding writing and directing Emmys – at the annual awards-season kickoff. Due to COVID-19, the event came to audiences virtually, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting alone in Los Angeles' Staples Center and winners and nominees appearing via video.

"Schitt's Creek" became the first TV show in Emmys history – comedy or drama – to sweep its night. It took seven honors including best comedy series, lead actor and actress for Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, and supporting actor and best writing for Daniel Levy.

"The Morning Show" star Billy Crudup won for supporting actor in a drama and Julia Garner was named best supporting actress for "Ozark."

In the limited series categories, "Watchmen" also won best lead actress (Regina King), supporting actor (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and an outstanding-writing Emmy. Mark Ruffalo took lead actor for "I Know This Much Is True," Uzo Aduba took supporting actress for "Mrs. America," while Maria Schrader earned an Emmy for outstanding directing for Netflix's "Orthodox."

A handful of awards were handed out at Creative Arts Emmys ceremonies held over the past week, including guest actors and best TV movie.
