Tracy and David Baldridge are planning to open the Hilliard Station Baking Co. at 4036 Main St. by the end of September.

Craving gourmet cupcakes?

This fall, the Hilliard Station Baking Co. should be able to help.

The 1,000-square-foot store is expected to open by the end of September at 4036 Main St.

"Our focus will be gourmet cupcakes," said Hilliard resident Tracy Baldridge, 51, who with her husband, David, will own and operate the business.

But other confections are being considered, too, she said.

The storefront has been vacant in the recent past; it once was a florist shop. It is between the parking lot for Chase Bank and Sports on Tap.

"We had been throwing around the idea (of opening a business), but it happened sooner than later after a great opportunity came up," said Baldridge, who resigned as a teacher at Northside Christian School in Westerville to turn her full-time attention to the new business.

David Baldridge, 58, said he would keep his full-time job at Nationwide Insurance.

"I've always loved to bake," said Tracy Baldridge, who is making her first foray into the retail side of it – with the exception of a few tables set up at school events.

For now, she will be the only employee making the store's products.

"We thought Hilliard could use a good old-fashioned cupcake shop," Tracy Baldridge said about choosing the location.

Libby Gierach, president and CEO of the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce, said the new business "will be a welcome addition," especially when it includes Hilliard residents investing in their community.

Those investments include remodeling the interior of the vacant building.

The original hardwood floors will be refurbished but much of the rest of the interior of the century-old building will need to be replaced, Tracy Baldridge said.
