Groveport Madison Schools: Board member Bryan Shoemaker resigns
Groveport Madison Board of Education member Bryan Shoemaker resigned during the June 10 meeting.
He cited a move outside the district as the reason.
Shoemaker was elected in November of 2010 and was serving his third team, which was to end Dec. 31, 2021.
“I believe this is a good time for the board for me to resign,” Shoemaker said at the meeting. “That way it gives the board ample opportunity during the time of the year that is not quite so busy to fill the seat, so with regret I will be, at close of business today, resigning myself seat, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve.”
Board president Libby Gray commended Shoemaker’s leadership abilities and his understanding of the community, saying he helped the district regain and maintain financial stability.
“Bryan also was instrumental throughout the design and construction of the high school, where his construction experience was invaluable,” she said.
According to state law, the board is required to fill Shoemaker’s seat at its next regular or special meeting and within 60 days of his vacancy, but not less than 10 days following his resignation.
Qualified candidates will be interviewed at a special board meeting Wednesday, June 24, according to Jeff Warner, Groveport Madison communications and community relations director. He said the new member likely will be selected July 8 at the next regularly scheduled board meeting. The new member will serve the remainder of Shoemaker’s term.
According to Warner, the selection process will not be significantly affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The board is holding in-person meetings, although the public still must observe virtually.
“The focus of the Groveport Madison Schools Board of Education is to ensure that the children of our community are provided with the high-quality of education they deserve – an education that will prepare them for the future they desire,” Gray said. “We encourage those residents who share this vision to complete an application and forward it to the district’s treasurer.”
