Canal Winchester plans hydrant flushing
Canal Winchester Division of Water officials have announced plans to conduct regular fire hydrant maintenance and flushing from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, starting Monday, Sept. 21, through Oct. 9.
Residents are advised to avoid running tap water, washing machines or dishwashers while a hydrant is being flushed on their street and to drive carefully when flushing crews are present.
During or immediately following hydrant flushing, tap water might appear discolored. Although a slight discoloration might last for a few hours, it does not affect the taste or quality of the water and poses no health threat water department officials said.
If discolored water is present, residents are advised to shut off their water and wait several minutes, then run cold water to allow new water to flow through the pipes. In some cases, it might be a few hours before the water runs completely clear.
After hydrants have been flushed, residents should wait until water runs clear from their tap and then begin with a load of dark laundry before washing lights or whites, officials said.
