Worthington Kilbourne at Big Walnut: Wolves, Golden Eagles seek to keep OCC-Capital title hopes alive
The Worthington Kilbourne and Big Walnut football teams are both looking to stay near the top of the OCC-Capital Division standings when the Golden Eagles play host to the Wolves on Friday, Sept. 18.
Kilbourne, which won only one game a year ago, improved to 2-1 overall and in the OCC-Capital by defeating Delaware 31-17 on Sept. 11.
Big Walnut brings the same records into the matchup after beating Franklin Heights 35-6 on Sept. 11, and Westerville North and Dublin Scioto also are 2-1 in league play through three weeks. Westerville South is 3-0.
Kilbourne senior quarterback Mitchell Tomasek completed 17 of 28 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns against Delaware after leaving with a thigh bruise during a 21-13 loss to Scioto on Sept. 10.
Two of those touchdowns went to Cayden Dougherty, who caught seven passes for 142 yards. Noah Wiley added three receptions for 45 yards and a score.
Trey Davis led the Wolves in rushing with 110 yards on 17 carries, and J.J. Calip ran for a score.
The Kilbourne defense, which held the Pacers to 244 yards of total offense, will look to slow down a Big Walnut attack that ran for 256 yards against Franklin Heights and finished with 363 total yards.
Gordon Rond led the Golden Eagles with 207 yards rushing on 28 carries, Rylee Legg ran for 51 yards on eight carries with a score and Cam Gladden also had a touchdown run.
Quarterback Jagger Barnett completed nine of 13 passes for 107 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for Big Walnut, which lost 21-14 in overtime to Kilbourne when the teams last played in 2017 in a non-league matchup.
Sam Fortney caught three passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns, and Gladden caught two passes for 28 yards and another score.
The Big Walnut defense held Franklin Heights to 214 total yards of offense.
