Grandview Heights: Bobcats hope to follow Liberty Union path to success
Grandview Heights football coach Jason Peters hopes to see the future of his team when the Bobcats travel to Liberty Union on Friday, Sept. 18, for an MSL-Ohio Division game.
Peters will send out a sophomore-heavy lineup against a Liberty Union squad that had similar characteristics last season, when it finished 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the league. Those experiences seem to be paying off for the Lions, as they are 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the MSL-Ohio.
A senior-dominated Bobcats team defeated Liberty Union 20-13 a year ago.
“(The Lions) look really solid on film,” said Peters, whose team is 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league. “They aren’t flashy in what they do, but they’re very good at what they do.”
The Lions stayed unbeaten by defeating Whitehall 34-12 on Sept. 11, as running backs Casey Fleahman and Braden Shreyer each scored twice and quarterback Cayden Carroll added a touchdown pass.
The Bobcats lost 64-13 to defending MSL-Ohio champion Harvest Prep on Sept. 11. Running back Connor McCormick rushed for a team-high 48 yards on 11 carries and also had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Running back Mason Gastesi added a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Defensively, linebacker Connor Dobies led with seven tackles, one for loss.
“We’re young and dinged up, but we’re learning,” Peters said. “We have to have 11 people consistent on both sides of the ball. It’s like if one player takes a play off on every play, and that has cost us.”
