Dawaun Green and Pickerington North will visit Grove City on Friday, Sept. 18.

During two of the best seasons in the Pickerington North football program’s history, it lost to Grove City to close the regular season.

The Panthers fell 13-10 to the Dawgs in 2012 when they reached a Division I state semifinal and 34-24 the next season when North went 10-2 and made it to a regional semifinal.

Since that 2013 matchup, however, Grove City has gone just 8-55 and lost six in a row in the series to the Panthers.

On Friday, Sept. 18, North and the Dawgs will meet in Week 4 of a six-week regular season in OCC-Ohio Division action.

North beat Westland 59-6 on Sept. 11 to improve to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. Grove City is coming off a 34-0 loss the same night to Westerville Central, dropping it to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.

In the Dawgs’ loss to the Warhawks, quarterback Zakk Tschirhart was 10-for-19 passing for 53 yards and one interception and his team’s rushing attack was limited to 58 yards on 33 carries.

Senior linebacker Hayden Yerian had 7.5 tackles and senior linebacker Tyler Biddle had 6.5 tackles and one tackle for loss to lead Grove City’s defense.

North’s offense has gotten a boost the last two weeks from senior Jaylen Gilbert, a Centennial transfer who rushed three times for 51 yards and one touchdown and completed four of five passes for 34 yards in the win over Westland.

Also against the Cougars, North senior quarterback Jared Knight went 3-for-5 passing for 30 yards and one touchdown. Knight is a former starter for Grove City who transferred to North in the offseason.

On offense for North through three games, senior running back Idris Lawrence Jr. has rushed for 239 yards and one touchdown and added eight receptions for 42 yards, sophomore running back Dawaun Green has 189 yards and four touchdowns on 32 carries and wide receiver Raquan Williams has five receptions for 54 yards and one score.

Defensively for the Panthers, lineman Elijah Hawk (13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss), linebacker Cole Johnson (15 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss) and defensive back Devin McShan (15 tackles, 2 tackles for loss) have led the way.
