Hilliard Council President Andy Teater and council clerk Lynne Fasone exchange a fist bump Aug. 24 moments after Teater read and presented a proclamation to Fasone for her 15 years of service as clerk. Fasone's last day as clerk was Aug. 24; she has accepted a post as city clerk for a city in Florida.

Hilliard City Council soon will choose a new council clerk to replace Lynne Fasone, who stepped down Aug. 24 from the post she had held for 15 years.

Fasone, who began serving as clerk in August 2005, announced her resignation July 28 after accepting a job as city clerk in Panama City Beach, Florida.

"Our loss is their gain," said council President Andy Teater, who presented Fasone with a proclamation Aug. 24 recognizing her service to the city.

Fasone said she "truly enjoyed" working alongside Hilliard council members and with residents and business owners but accepted the job in Florida to be closer to family members.

Teater said council members are in the process of scheduling in-person interviews and hope to make a selection by the end of September. Eight candidates met the filing deadline of Aug. 14, according to the city.

Meanwhile, City Council on Aug. 24 appointed Diane Hicks as interim council clerk.

Hicks, who has 30 years of experience as an executive assistant in the private sector, said she did not apply for consideration for the council-appointed clerk position.
