Hilliard Bradley at Olentangy Liberty
The Olentangy Liberty and Hilliard Bradley football teams have never played, but Patriots coach Steve Hale will have some familiarity with the opposing offensive coordinator when the Jaguars visit Friday, Sept. 18, for an OCC-Central Division game.
In a 2017 Division I state semifinal, Liberty lost 27-21 to Mentor, a team coached by current Jaguars offensive coordinator Steve Trivisonno. Hale said his team has to be prepared for anything and everything.
“(Trivisonno) has had a great career and is pretty well-respected,” said Hale, whose team is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the OCC-Central. “I’ve watched a little bit of Bradley. I’m not sure what he brought down from Mentor, but we’ll need to be ready.”
Bradley (1-2, 1-1) picked up its first victory Sept. 11 by holding off host Hilliard Davidson 22-17. Quarterback A.J. Mirgon rushed for 126 yards on 11 carries with touchdowns of 65 and 26 yards, and he was 6-for-9 passing for 98 yards.
His top target was wide receiver Kenyon Richardson, who had three receptions for 79 yards.
“They’re very talented and have a lot of highly skilled scholarship players,” Hale said. “When you add coach Trivisonno to the mix, it makes it tough.”
Running back Aidan Kenley led Liberty by rushing for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries in a 21-14 league win at Upper Arlington on Sept. 11.
Quarterback Mitch Fields was 15-for-25 passing for 144 yards, and wide receiver Cam Barcus had two receptions for 33 yards.
“They’re super solid across the board in everything they do,” Bradley coach Mike LoParo said. “I like (Kenley), who runs hard and is tough to bring down. (Fields) makes good decisions and doesn’t put the ball in harm’s way. He distributes the ball well.”
