Daniel Broomfield and Reynoldsburg visit Lancaster on Friday, Sept. 18, for an OCC-Buckeye Division game.

The Reynoldsburg football team will be searching for consistency and host Lancaster will be seeking a breakthrough when the teams meet Friday, Sept. 18 in an OCC-Buckeye Division matchup.

After opening with a 48-14 win over Gahanna on Aug. 28, the Raiders were blown out by Groveport 45-14 on Sept. 4 but responded with another 48-14 win, this time over winless Newark on Sept. 11 at home.

The Golden Gales, meanwhile, are a tough-luck 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the OCC-Buckeye, having lost each of their games by seven points or fewer.

Reynoldsburg, which is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league, won last year’s meeting 55-20 and has three consecutive victories in the series.

Both teams had been in the OCC-Ohio since 2008 before the latest conference realignment, with the teams splitting those 12 meetings.

In Reynoldsburg’s win over Newark, quarterback Dijon Jennings finished 8-for-14 passing for 188 yards and two touchdowns, running back Daniel Broomfield had seven carries for 165 yards and one score and added a 56-yard receiving touchdown and James Williams rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns.

The Raiders allowed 240 total yards, with senior lineman Kaleb Bernardin picking up a fumble and senior lineman Mekhai Woodfork having two tackles for loss. Senior Terrell Burton also has been a standout on the line for the Reynoldsburg defense.

The Raiders will be challenged defensively by Lancaster’s wing-T rushing attack, which features senior running back Parker Hill. He ran for 120 yards on 18 carries in a 16-13 loss to unbeaten Groveport on Sept. 11.

Senior quarterback Titan Johnson, who has attempted 32 passes on the season, was 3-for-6 passing for 92 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown to senior George Sherrick with 8 minutes, 46 seconds remaining.

That score made it 16-13 and Lancaster got the ball back at its own 30 and moved to the Groveport 40, but Johnson was sacked for a 5-yard loss with 1:30 remaining and then threw incomplete on fourth-and-33 with 52 seconds left as the Cruisers held on.

Groveport is 3-0 but was held to 197 yards of offense by the Gales, as Eli Rathburn had an interception for the Lancaster defense.
