Columbus City Hall once stood where the Ohio Theatre is today at 39 E. State St. Construction started on the Gothic architecture building in 1869 and was completed in 1872. It was destroyed by fire Jan. 12, 1921. The decision was made not to rebuild because of extensive fire and water damage, and it also was considered an eyesore. A new City Hall was constructed at 90 W. Broad St. and dedicated in 1928.
