Softball: Jerry Hatcher named coach at Big Walnut
Jerry Hatcher, a longtime Big Walnut assistant softball coach, will lead the program, pending school board approval.
Athletics director Brian Shelton announced the hire on the school’s athletics website Aug. 18.
“Coach Hatcher is well respected by many, and I fully believe our girls softball program will excel under coach Hatcher’s leadership,” Shelton said. “Besides meeting with the players, coach Hatcher has goals to work closely with youth softball and develop a player development program.”
Former coach Jeff Hatfield announced his resignation in June, leaving the program following the disappointment of not having a spring sports season because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Last season would have been Hatfield’s 14th at Big Walnut, where his teams went 201-145 and won OCC championships in 2008 and 2009 and a Division I district title in 2014. His teams reached a district final three other times.
Hatcher was the assistant varsity coach during those years.
