Gymnastics: Brittany Maynard steps down as Upper Arlington coach
Brittany Maynard stepped down as Upper Arlington gymnastics coach in late June after two successful seasons, but athletics director Tony Pusateri is confident she kept the program in a place to attract a strong successor and maintain the Golden Bears’ recent success.
This past winter, Maynard guided UA to a 14-0 record in OCC-Central Division duals and a third consecutive league championship. The Bears finished seventh in the district meet.
According to Pusateri, Maynard resigned after receiving a promotion from her elementary school teaching job in the South-Western City School District.
“It’s a big loss,” Pusateri said. “She really, really, really cared about the kids and loves the sport. It’s been hard here the past few years with having to practice elsewhere (because of construction for a new high school), but she never once complained. She gave all the girls the same kind of attention, recognition and help they needed.”
Several key contributors are eligible to return, including rising seniors Tally Angelis and Mia Tzagournis and rising sophomore Amelia Pearson.
UA’s next coach will be its eighth in nine seasons.
